How to configure Mikrotik with a static IP from your ISP?

Mikrotik is a device supplier with the very famous Router OS operating system. This article will guide you through configuring Mikrotik step by step.

How to configure Mikrotik with a static IP from your ISP?


    1. What needs to be prepared before starting to configure Mikrotik?

  • First, we need to prepare the computer or laptop, network cable and download winbox.

    2. Connect to your Mirkotik

  • Now we start to open Winbox that we already download. then we click Neighbors => Click Login by MAC Address or by IP Address
  • Default user is admin and password: empty

    3. Delete all setting on the router

  • Go to Menu => System => Reset Configuration=> Select on No Default Configuration=> Click on Reset Configuration

    4. Now let start to configuration steps

  • Change name interfaces for we easy to setup
    • Go to Interfaces=> ether1 change to Wan1 and bridge change to bridge1
  • Create a bridge for Local Network(Lan)
    • Go to the Bridge menu=> click + to add a bridge, name it bridge1
  • Create Ports
    • Go to the Bridge menu=> Ports=> Click add new => Interfaces Select Wan1 and bridge select bridge1
    • Do it the same for all port eth2-eth5

5. Setup the IP for bridge1

  • Go to IP=> Addresses=> Add New => Address "Input your IP address that ISP provide" and interface select bridge1
Example: Address 192.168.123.80/24 and network 192.168.123.0 and interfaces select bridge1

6. Setup the IP for Wan1

  • Go to IP=> Addresses=> Add New => Address "Input your local IP" and interface select Wan1
Example: Address 192.168.20.1/24 and network 192.168.20.0 and interfaces select Wan1

7. Setup DHCP Server

  • Go to IP => DHCP Server=> Click DHCP Setup 
  • Select bridge1 and click next to continue
  • Set IP range, automatically set if bridge already has IP
  • Set gateway ID
  • Set first and last IP
  • Set DNS
  • Set IP lease time
  • Finish DHCP server settings

8. Setup DNS

  • Go to IP=> DNS=> then input your DNS from ISP

9. NAT LAN traffic to Allow internet access

  • Go to IP=> Firewall => NAT=> Click add new => General Chain Choose "srcnat" and Action choose "masquerade"



After this step, machines in the bridge-LAN can connect to the internet normally.
